We are in the midst of a struggle in our nation between becoming something new and different, and keeping the security of the past. We don't know just yet if the new changes happening in our nation are good or bad. One group holds on to the past and says "If it ain't broke; don't fix it!" Another group highlights the shortcomings in our system and says "We can do better". Most of us are somewhere in between. We like the idea of something new, and the possibility of better lives, but we're scared because in the past new deals didn't always lead to a better life. That's the stage upon which our national news performs daily. And in the midst of that struggle is the symbol of The Ten Commandments.
The Ten Commnadments are a significant symbol in our national identity. One side holds them up as a visible descriptive of our goodness and moral standards. The other side sees them as a dogmatic, repressive symbol of intolerance. Where do you stand on the idea of the Ten Commandmenst? Are they part of our heritage? Are they evidence of forced religion? Do they violate the separation of church and state? Are they reminders of all that is good in America?
If you're reading this blog, why not weigh in on the subject?

To say that the Ten Commandments is merely a significant symbol in our national identity I think would be missing the mark a little bit. The Ten Commandments are the foundation for the law in the United States, just as God gave the Ten Commandments to Moses for the Israelite people, we adopted these laws as a GOD-FEARING nation. The problem is, we are no longer a God fearing nation, we have adopted new ideals and such tolerance for sin that we will accept whatever works out best for us, with no consideration to God or what He thinks. When God gave us, and I will use us as a general term for mankind, the Ten Commandments, he was giving us His Law. When God sent Christ to atone for our sins, he (Christ) did not abolish the law, but fulfilled it. The law is still there, it is not gone, but now with giving your life to Christ and letting Him be the Lord of your life you will by the Holy Spirit, follow God's law. As far as the separation of Church and State, the point of this letter penned by Thomas Jefferson was not to take the Church out of the state but to keep the state out of the Church. We need more of God in every area of our lives, especially where our young kids spend the majority of their time..school. Who knows, All of this might be the beginning of the birth pains but God knows and its for his Glory and in His timing. All we can do is seek Christ, ask forgiveness and ask that His will be done in our lives and that he change us to be more like Him.
I think everyone should just read Titus Chapter 3......
they are what we should be living by personally - what our society should be living by - and what we should be teaching our children - it is OUR responsibility as Christians to set an example - live by God's Laws.
